Toosahatchee Wildlife Management Area
From Dirtopia, The Off-Road Encyclopedia
Off State Rd 520 north of SR 528 (Beachline)follow signs to the WMA.
About 15 or so miles of forest trails on 2 loops plus a powerline road that ends at St Johns River. All trails are packed sand and can be soft or firm and washed out.
Most SUVs even cars can handle the trails but 4X4 makes it easier. Take a mountain bike or go hiking on additional trails set aside for hiking only. You can put a canoe in to St Johns River at the east end of Powerline Rd.
Most of the trails are canopied by the trees over the trails and some are open grass areas.
This is more of a scenic area rather than a hard core off road area. Just a nice getaway in your rig. Patrolled by State officers and they enforce the self pay rules and trail rules. Pay the user fee, and Dont leave the proper trails.
There is equestrian use of the area also which is nice to see.
The entrance has a self pay station and free user maps. closing hours are posted, usually close around dark.
May spot game such as deer and bobcats, turkeys, and gators at the river or the ponds at the south end.
There is now more hunting due to the area being designated as a WMA when in the past it was just a state park. The park manager has been aggresive towards 4X4s in the area because she is supportive of hunters and apparently dislikes 4 wheelers. Using the trails for 4X4 is completely legal for street legal vehicles so she can only make her personal opinions known but can't kick users out. It is a public area not just for hunters.
If you follow the rules and stay on proper trails you are fine.
