Three Lakes Wildlife Management Area
From Dirtopia, The Off-Road Encyclopedia
Three Lakes Wildlife Management Area consists of lightly maintained trails, water holes, mud. Nothing too technical. Please be kind! Don't dig out mud and water holes deeper and make them unpassable for others!
It is imperative to stay on numbered trails. The ecosystem in this area is very sensitive and damaging habitat that supports the life cycle of thousands of species can cause permanent damage to an ecosystem that is millions of years old. Tread lightly!
Reinforcing the tread lightly issue, this is a very sensitive eco area and leaving official trails is a super no no. If caught by wildlife officers face serious charges! And they do patrol in 4X4 rigs! Respect this area and its rules or regular area users will turn violators in and maybe take action on their own!
This WMA is located 13 miles south of Holipaw on Kenansville Rd. The main Road into the area is Williams Rd. which is a big loop and the other trails and loops all run from this main road. You can travel over 50 miles of trails without getting bored, but you can get stuck and getting help can be difficult! The trails include some gravel roads that become double track or sand and vary from firm to very soft. Get the Florida Wildlife Commision user guide for this area available on line to understand user rules and policies.
Three lakes includes "60 unit" which is accessed from Rte 60 south and west of main area. Also "Prairie Lakes unit" which is off Canoe Creek Rd, west of main unit but cannot be accessed from west end of Williams Rd because the gate is closed always.
Combined over 60,000 acres and also have nice gravel roads for mountain biking, hiking, game watching.
