Potato Peak Road

To me this one is still a mystery. On the GPS and Google Earth it appears to to connect Red Rock to the 95 but I do not have the skill to make this a round trip yet. The entry is the same for Desert NWR but take the road on the west side of the interstate (power station entrance). This rd. starts out easy but gets difficult around 6000 ft. Some clearance issues and loose rock make for a difficult ascent and a slippery descent. Be the first to post your photo from the top and no cheating the top can also be accessed by paved roads off the Kyle canyon / Lee canyon rd that connects Mt. Charleston. Off of the north side of this trail while the going is still easy there is a spur that contains many abandoned mines. Bring a flash light to be amazed at how deep they go. Please do not enter these mines. Nevada has some great signs warning people to the dangers of these mines, "stay out, stay alive" They really can be that dangerous. To the south side of the main trail is another spur that takes you to a natural spring where wildlife can be viewed. At the start of this trail at the power station there is a no. / so. run of power lines off this run there are many spurs leading into the mountains.
