Best to start at Organ Pipe National Monument and head west to Yuma. Suggest spending the night in Ajo, AZ then you'll be fresh for 2 days of awesome offroading. You'll need to get a permit to cross due to the fact that the trail crosses the "Barry Goldwater Bombing Range" and you have to call ahead before entering the range. Permits available at Marine Corps Air Station, Yuma, AZ
150 miles so suggest extra 10 gallons of gas and ice chests with lots of water. Expect to spend one night on the trail. Suggest make plans to spent night at Christmas Tree Pass. Fall and spring are recommended for this trip and the only help you can possibly expect would be Border Patrol.
Do not use book titled "El Camino Del Diablo" for info, it's about human smuggling.
Numerous water tanks are there but no guarantees that there is water. Lava fields, sand dunes and wildflowers in the spring. High ground clearance a must. Not recommended for 2 wheel drive.
More information can be found on the internet.
