Google Earth, kmz/kml files and GPS units

Indicate that a kmz. file is available allowing you to see the highlighted trail and/or POI in Google Earth.

If you have Google Earth installed in your computer download the kmz file next to Google Earth on the right. This file will open in Google Earth and it will show you with great accuracy the trails and POI (points of interest) that we have marked. While on Google Earth, look on the left side under Places, all the way down under Temporary Places you will see the name of the downloaded file with a check mark in its square and a plus sign next to it, clicking the plus sign will show you sub-folders and eventually the individual POI or trails, removing the check mark will make them not visible or visible on the map.

This multi trail / multi POI file can be used to generate single trails or single POI kmz. or kml. files for this area. - - kml. files can easily be converted to a gpx. file using a free program like GPS Babel, gpx. files then can be uploaded to a GPS receivers (many of them). On Google Earth choose the trail or POI you want, (one at the time only) be sure the check mark is on, click the trail / POI name once until it become blue - - right click on it - - Save Place As … - - Make sure that in Save as type: = kml - - Save, - - (kmz. file is a compressed kml. file)

This kmz. file can also be edited adding more POI or trails, make sure you close all sub-folders and save/upload only the main/root folder. In this case the main folder is called Anza-Borrego
